The study methodology of the FT involves a combination of theoretical and practical training through field works, presentations, and interaction with experts from the industry.

The vision and objective of the FT are:

  1. Provide advanced training in different aspects of fishing technology: As fisheries is a renewable resource, it is important to develop effective fisheries management frameworks, together with safer and more environmentally-friendly methods of production through the development of selective fishing gear(s). This would help ensure sustainable yield in both open and closed waters. Besides, it is designed to provide the students with knowledge about various factors that influence the harvesting of seafood while ensuring their quality.
  2. Design and operation of modern crafts and gears: The design of crafts and gears is very important in fishing technology as it plays a very important role to help enhance the production on commercial bases. Advanced training is provided to acquire knowledge regarding different fishing gears and fishing crafts for successful, efficient and economic fishing.
  3. Methods of fish preservation: Fish preservation is an important aspect of fisheries technology as it ensures keeping fish at its original quality in respect of nutritive value for a short time/long-time period.
  4. Fundamentals of fisheries microbiology
  5. Protein chemistry
  6. Fish processing technology
  7. Fishery product development
  8. Fishery by-product utilization
  9. Quality assurance and quality regulation in freshwater and marine artisanal and industrial fisheries.

The training is intended to equip graduates for a management role in the fish harvesting, processing and preservation sectors of inland and marine fisheries of the home country and of the fish industry for export purposes, and also to serve as a preparation for higher degree research.
